Ariana Page Russell - Skin

About the series:

"Artist Ariana Page Russell was, born with a skin condition called Dermatographia, any light scratch will raise her skin into rosy welts which last for about 30 minutes. She explains dermatographia as:

A condition in which one’s immune system releases excessive amounts of histamine, causing capillaries to dilate and welts to appear (lasting about thirty minutes) when the hypersensitive skin’s surface is lightly scratched. This allows me to painlessly draw on my skin with just enough time to photograph the results. Even though I can direct this ephemeral response by drawing on it, the reaction is involuntary, much like the uncontrollable nature of a blush.

The photographs from her series Skin capture her body covered in beautiful temporary designs of her own creation. She writes words, creates patterns with floral flourishes and points, and even connects her freckles like stars in a body based constellation.”

Timothy, an army explosive sniffer dog, wears the helmet of a soldier who placed it on his head at the site of a car loaded with explosives that was detonated by an army anti-bomb squad in Pradera, southwestern Colombia, Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. Fifteen people were killed this week in two attacks with explosives in southern Colombia, blamed on rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, FARC, by President Juan Manuel Santos.

You all know Colombia for the coffee, the cocaine (I’m not gonna lie) the women, etc.. But this is how Colombia looks like right now. Juan Manuel Santos the president singed a North American Free Trade Agreement, so now the chicken, the rice even the corn we eat in Colombia comes form the US, what do we give them? Oil of course. Since our famers can compete against super transgenic cheap producs they broke, and they are not millionaires, the farmers of my country are poor people without education or fundamental rights, so they are making protest around the country and this is the answer of the president -He even said in TV that whoever who tried to protest would be arrested- there is several people injured, arrested, and I just read that a student died. The police has no mercy and soon as the ONU said to the president: “Whoa dude, you are being to rude, you need to calm down, because you are being a monster” He replied: “Then leave the country”.
The police has gas, they are dressed as civilians and start riots, so in that way the police can “rightfully” use the force, they are shooting people, not just gas or rubber bullets, they have real bullets, and they can use them, the president make them free to do whatever they want for appease the protest.
Those people are not criminals, they put food on our plates, they keep our country alive, but for our president it is not enough, thats why companies like “Pacific rubiales” and more can stay at the country, use the army, the resources, contaminate our water and destroy our forest, and then leave with a debt of millions os dollars, and they president just say to them “Oh c’mon guys, why did you leave? Please come back, not because you owe us a lot of money is because you are rich”
This photo breaks my heart, because my grandparents were farmers too, they build our homes with their own hands, they teach me to work hard, they teach me how important the earth is, and now if they were alive they probably would be in jail.
Please help us, Colombia needs you help, not your money, your help, share the word, if you ignore the problem you are part of it.
Thank you and sorry for the shitty english, isn’t my first language.

Update: Teachers and students are joining them since today, the police is already in some universities, there is a lot of arrested students and why are trying to contain the police but everything is out of control. Stores are selling vegetables 5 times more expensive because there is no food, and the ex president: Alavaro Uribe Velez, a criminal the one who impulse all this laws that today fucked up us now is “supporting” the protest, why? Because elections are coming and we all know what it means, that guy is a CRIMINAL, he is responsable of this and a genocide, murder, and more. I’ll post some pictures and videos of what is going on: Videos: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151640885712017

And why I’m writhing this in english and not in spanish? Because most of the news are in spanish, so for spanish speakers is easier to get those news, but the local news won’t say anything to the world about this.
